What this means for your floor
Adding an incompatible or overly soft layer can change how a locking system performs. Product instructions, substrate type, condo or building requirements and the intended installation method should determine whether a separate underlayment belongs in the system.
What can change the recommendation?
Attached backingIdentify the exact factory-attached backing. Verify whether extra underlayment is permitted; adding layers can change support, locking performance or warranty eligibility.
Compatible underlaymentCheck the complete floor assembly and current product documents. Verify that added layers and any building requirements are compatible before ordering.
Building acoustic rulesRequest the building's written acoustic requirements and any accepted test documentation. Evaluate the complete floor assembly rather than treating an IIC/STC number as universal approval.
SubstrateInspect and measure the condition before selecting a repair. Separate surface preparation from damaged material or structural movement and record the agreed limits of work.
